I’m Dr. Brenda Shaeffer and have been a licensed Physical Therapist since 1978 and a private practitioner since 1981. I earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Simmons College, in 2005, a Bachelor of Science from Cleveland State University, in 1978 and attended The Ohio State University and Mary Washington College prior to completion of my degrees. I have been working to provide the most up to date information to apply my practice of physical therapy in business and in treatment approaches in orthopedics and sports, and have treated athletes at every level, from adolescent and recreational sports enthusiasts to highly competitive and professional athletes. Over my over forty years in practice, I have experience with all age groups providing post-surgical rehabilitation, performance training and neurological disease care (including extensive work with ALS patients). This experience combined with fabulous mentors and opportunities has provided me with a unique understanding of issues associating with both injury recovery and performance improvement to the highest level. As a former elite gymnast and national sailboat racer, as well as a former coach in both sports and parent of a former division 1 college lacrosse player, I have a unique perspective of sports and performance to keep focused on realism, compassion seeking measurable results and how it feels to be in pain, frustrated, defeated with injury causing disappointment and the struggle it takes to reset.I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to share my extensive medical background, research study and hands-on physical therapy work for the last 40+ years, to help any person, no matter their background or goals.
MY APPROACH, PASSION AND MISSION :
Finding the causes, determining, solutions and implementing a plan focused on the whole body to help every person to reach their potential and their goals at any age and stage of life with education which promotes the confidence and competence to become the most self- reliant in taking care of their body
To find the best solutions to recurring pain patterns, injury recovery and performance barriers that hinder productivity, I use a three-step method in my work with every patient pain, recovery or performance issue.
1. First, I confirm the root cause of the issue, and teach you how rethink your goals and priorities.
2. Next, I apply research-based approaches to teach you how to recognize when and how to reduce risks in your own body and the movement patterns and habits that can cause pain and/or performance issues.
3. Finally, I work with each person to develop a goal-specific plan, including assembling a solutions team, and work in collaboration to apply treatment and teaching techniques to correct imbalances and re-train the body to function and optimize it the way it was designed.
New evidence and knowledge form new technology and research have given every person an opportunity to reset their body to optimal health at any age or stage of life!
